Olive Stats- 4 years

Olive is now 34 pounds (50th percentile) and 40.75 inches tall (75th percentile).  She gained 4 pounds and grew almost 3 inches this year.  Here are her stats from year onetwo, and three.

Olive has an amazing memory and knows how to figure out words based on context clues.  One time she read (recited from memory) a book to us after only hearing it once.  She has also been practicing writing and knows how to write most of her letters.  Olive is very creative and focused when she is making something.  She loves to build with blocks, design outfits, draw, and paint.  She almost always has a pen in her hand.

She adores her big sister.  It was a difficult adjustment to spend time away from Hannah this year.  Olive still says she misses her just about every day.  Hannah is her favorite playmate.  Olive had no interest in playing with other kids until about 3 years old.  Then she started to make friends with older girls (who looked like Hannah) on the playground.  And now she has transitioned to making friends her own age.

Life with Olive is never boring.  She is a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes within just a few minutes.  Her personality is the opposite of easy-going!  She is independent and likes things to be on her terms.  In Olive's words, "I don't like rules."  If she senses that people really want her to to do something, she will often refuse to do it even if it is something the likes (dressing up for Halloween, blowing out candles on her birthday, etc.)  She has been in "the terrible twos" for years, but the tantrums have definitely become less frequent in the past few months.  She stopped napping after she turned 3 1/2 and that really helped her mood (which I know seems counter-intuitive).

What I love about Olive:
I love how sweet Olive can  be.  She likes to randomly cuddle and give me hugs and kisses during the day.  She is the best sister to Hannah and wants to make her happy.  I like her laugh, her smile, and her chubby cheeks.  She is a wonderful artist and I like watching her create things.  I love how determined she is when she goes after something she wants.  Olive always stands up for herself and others.  I have no doubt she will be a strong, confident woman one day.

What Steve loves about Olive:
Olive can be fierce.  She can be determined.  She can be sweet.  Olive loves to joke and make us laugh.

What Hannah loves about Olive:
She's talented.  She's good at putting on shows.  She helps me.

What Olive thinks about herself:
I like to talk.  I'm really good at making up games.  I'm good at drawing.

Olive's 4th Birthday Party

Olive had a dress up party for her birthday.  I cut out dress shapes for her to decorate for invitations.  Olive loved it so much every few days she asks me cut her more dresses to design.

We set up Hannah's room with all our dress up clothes and we all made several outfit changes during the course of the party....

Marissa had my camera for the majority of the party, so we got a lot of these gems...

Ainslyn and Olive looked so much alike with the same haircut, brown hair, pink outfits, and similar size!

As usual, Olive's emotions ran high.  Halfway through the party she got so overwhelmed that she was sent to her room to calm down...and she immediately fell asleep.  When she woke up we finally coaxed her into blowing out her candles, so we could have some cupcakes.

And she got her big present:  A new (used) bike!

We finished up with a cupcake hunt in the backyard.

Olive Quotes

"Dada and I are both wearing cactus jeans!"  (They were khakis)

"This day is yucky!  I want to throw this day in the trash can!"

"Are those new pajamas?  They look fabulous!"

(eating cookies) "These are good!  They taste like hugs and kisses!"

"I miss Hannah."  (said almost every day about a minute after we drop her off at school)

Olive:  Are these okay?  (holding up capri pants)
me:  Yes.
Olive:  Are they cute?
me:  Yes.
Olive:  Good.  Because I always want to be cute.

Olive's birthday

Olive started her birthday by opening all the presents that Granny sent.  She really liked the wooden cupcakes on a stand.  She requested to stay in pjs all morning while Hannah was at school.

Her lunch request was McDonald's with a play place.

Then we went to Crown Center.  We toured the Hallmark visitor center for the first time.

They liked the bow making machine.

Then we went to Kaleidoscope right next door.  Olive loves art, so it was the perfect place for her.

The girls are wearing their birthday presents from Aunt Becky and Uncle Justin.  Becky made the the owl and horse designs and the girls colored the rest with fabric markers.

We also went to the fairy tale exhibit at Crown Center. The girls loved identifying all the stories even though the exhibit wasn't as interactive as others.

Norah visit

Tyler and Norah came back for a visit!  The last time we saw them was in June. The girls had a great time playing at the park and having a sleepover while Steve and I stayed up way too late catching up with Tyler.

Easter

My family came to our house for Easter, although Hannah thought it was to celebrate Steve coming back from Colorado.  We did our usual egg hunt in the backyard and then scavenger hunt to find Easter baskets.  And there was lots of playing outside in the great weather!

very excited about a bunny marshmallow

What a fun family :)

better lighting...but blurry

Hannah won the special Easter coloring contest at Price Chopper.  The prize was a basket full of goodies!
