McWeekend

The McGuire family (Kevin, Jane, Kevin, and Colin) stayed with us this weekend. They took the train from St. Louis on Saturday and went back Monday morning. It was pretty crazy having 3 kids under the age of 3 in the house. Our living room is already filled with Hannah's toys and the McGuires brought some of their toys, so it was pretty much mass chaos. But everyone had a great time. Steve and I couldn't believe how big the boys are now. The last time we saw Colin he was a baby and now he is walking around. And it doesn't even seem that long ago that Jane was pregnant with Kevin and we spent the Fourth of July together in the middle-of-nowhere-Kansas. We spent this weekend playing with the kids in our living room, going to the park, and watching way too many episodes of How I Met Your Mother (thank you, Tamra). The Vroomans came over Sunday for lunch and we got a picture of the girls. Hannah has been growing so much that they are about the same size now! It was a fun weekend. Steve even got to tease Kevin with jokingly wearing a stocking cap when we were getting ready to walk to Kokopelli's for dinner. More pictures from McWeekend...

Teacher Babies

It was a big year for Westwood View. It is a small school (only two teachers per grade level), but three of us had babies and two more got married this year. Here are the babies: Emmett- 5 weeks, Oliver- 8 months, and Hannah- 3 months.

Ten Year Reunion

Steve and I had our 10 year high school reunion on Saturday. In the morning my friend Tamra organized a mini-reunion with friends at Clay Street Park and that night we went to Good Time Charlie's for the real reunion. It was so nice to catch up with everyone again! I thought they were a great group of people in high school, but I think they are even better versions of themselves now. I've known some of the girls since kindergarten and now they are all grown up with great jobs, great husbands, great kids, or all of the above. Sunday was Steve's first Father's Day and we also celebrated my grandpa's birthday (a little early). Here's even more cross-blogging action because I'm lazy...and didn't take any pictures.

Hannah Stats- Three Months

Hannah is now 12 pounds 1 ounce and 24 inches long. She didn't have a doctor's appointment this month, so these are unofficial measurements. Everyone has said, "Just wait until she is 3 months old. They are so much better then." And they were right. We may even have to stop calling her Hannah Bear because there aren't as many growls now. She doesn't wake up crying in the middle of the night anymore. In fact, when she wakes up in the morning she just stretches and smiles. Her favorite things to do are splash in the bath and have "conversations" with funny noises. The main things she says are ah-coo, ah-goo, and high pitched squeals. Recently, she has also discovered that she has hair and she likes to grab it and twist it around in her fingers. We're still working on the tummy time...

5 Year Anniversary Trip

We have a history of spending our anniversary in exotic locations:

Year 1: St. Joseph, MO

Year 2: Kansas City, MO

Year 3: Rocheport, MO

Year 4: Kansas City, MO

Year 5: Manhattan, KS

Note how much more extravagant the odd years are. I'm in charge of the odd years and Megan takes the even years.

So this year being our fifth anniversary, we wanted to do something extra special. However we also wanted to take Hannah. We decided we would put off a really nice trip until next year and instead try something shorter and closer to home. Manhattan is one of the bigger cities within 3 hours that we haven't seen yet so we decided to go there. Plus we've already decided Hannah will be a Wildcat.

You might wonder what there is to do in Manhattan, Kansas. That's justifiable. I think the key to taking great vacations is keeping your standards of entertainment very low.

Since we weren't at home with chores to do we got to play with Hannah a lot. We realized how seldom we both give her attention at the same time. She really liked that. She had lots of coos and gurgles and smiles for us. We also picked a hotel with an indoor pool so we could take Hannah swimming for the first time. She didn't enjoy it as much as bathtime, but it was pleasant. We also got to do cheesy-family-vacation-stuff that Megan and I like doing... we went to the zoo, we walked around campus and saw the gardens and insect zoo, we walked around Aggieville and ate at some neat restaurants, we went to an art museum.

What's new with Hannah:

The first is running. With the snuzzler inside the jogging stroller, Hannah doesn't flop around, and as long as I just use roads, the stroller is very smooth and there's no shaking at all. It's actually smoother than walking with the small-wheeled stroller that we have. Hannah has been on two runs so far. The second is sleeping. Now Hannah almost always sleeps from when we put her to bed (9:00-10:00) until about 5:00. That makes Megan very happy.
