Olive Stats- 4 months

Olive is now 14 pounds and 4 ounces (70th percentile) and 25.5  inches long (90th percentile).  She has started using her hands and her favorite things to grab are her feet.  She is rolling over from her back to her side and once she even rolled all the way to her tummy!  Olive is a quiet, easy-going, and happy baby. Well, unless someone tries to put a bottle in her mouth!  Then she is none of those things.  :)  But she is getting better.  She's up to 8 ounces at daycare with minimal complaining.

As expected, the first week was rough.  It was hard to get everyone ready in time.  The girls didn't take good naps.  Hannah only slept 20 minutes the first day and was pretty much a zombie that night. And although Olive will take a bottle from me, she refused to take one from Miss Pat.  She only ate about 2 ounces the whole day and that was basically Pat dripping milk in her mouth.  Every day got a little better and by Thursday everyone was taking their full naps and Olive drank from the bottle without any complaining.  Then on Friday she went back to throwing a fit and only getting 2 ounces.  Of course this weekend she took the bottle from me just fine, so who knows what will happen on Monday?

Last Weekend of Summer

Last weekend might have been my favorite weekend of the whole summer. Okay, maybe Omaha was better, but this was a close second.  We just spent the weekend in KC doing some of our favorite things.  (Sorry the pictures are not very good- or missing entirely for some things we did.)

We went to the art museum to see Monet's Water Lilies on Friday afternoon.  Hannah was not impressed.  Her favorite thing was a horse sculpture.  She also likes the building itself and all of the stairs and ramps.

We went to my favorite restaurant (Buca di Beppo) for dinner, and when we were leaving there was a live band outside.  It got us in the dancing mood, so we went home and had a dance party in the family room.

My friend Brooke was in town from Milwaukee, so we met her Saturday morning in Leawood Park.  Hannah did some of her favorite things: riding her trike and throwing rocks in the creek.  After naps we went back to the same park to swim.  We'd never been to that pool before so it was fun to play on new stuff.  To top off our day we had cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes.

Sunday Steve went on a bike ride (one of his favorite things), and we took the girls to the City Market for the first time.  We got the best blueberries ever and Hannah got to eat honey right out of the comb (and wear a bee keepers hat).

So that is pretty much my idea of a perfect weekend- museum, pasta, dancing, park, swimming, chocolate shakes, and market.  And of course doing it all with my wonderful family.  Have I mentioned how much I love having two daughters?  I do.  They are the best. And Steve is pretty great, too.  :)

Goodbye Summer

Sigh.  Summer is over.  And it was my last baby summer.  I don't know if that feels good or not.  It just goes by so fast watching the girls grow up.  Or as Jane would say, "Time flies when you are cleaning up poop!"  That, too.

This summer Hannah became a very proud trike rider and learned most of her letter sounds, too.  Although I'm ashamed to say she learned them more from Super Why and Word World than from her mom the teacher.  And Olive changed even more.  She went from a newborn to a big, smiling baby with personality.

Since I had a newborn at the beginning and excessive heat warnings at the end of summer, we didn't get out and go on as many adventures as I would have liked.  But we did have fun hanging around the house and backyard.  Some of Hannah's favorite things to do: ride her tricycle, blow bubbles (she learned how to do that too this summer), play soccer in the living room, dance, paint, and kiss her sister.

Some of Olive's favorite things to do: kick balloons that are tied to her foot, watch Hannah dance, play peek-a-boo, listen to singing, and of course nap in her swing.

Tomorrow the girls go to daycare.  Even though I love my job and I'm excited to start the new school year and be around adults again....it is so hard to leave my girls!  I haven't been away from Olive for more than 1-2 hours since she was born.  Adding to the stress, Olive had never taken a bottle so we had to bottle-train her.  On "Bottle Day" last weekend that strong-willed girl went until 5:00 pm before she drank from it!  I called for reinforcements (Grandma) on Monday and Tuesday.  She played with Hannah so I could focus on getting Olive to eat.  We love you Grandma!!  Now Olive is finally okay with the bottle, but it is still going to be rough to adjust to new sleep schedules and being away from each other.  The first week is always the toughest. After we get into the new routine it isn't so bad.  Just don't expect many blog posts for awhile. :)

Pierson Park

On Thursday we visited a new park with Ollie and his cousin Lolo.  Hannah loved the sprayground and spent a lot of her time running around and squealing.  She also liked the giant spider web.  However, she did not like the seaweed Becky brought for a snack.  She is more adventurous than me and tried it, but then she opted for a cereal bar instead.

Flower Mobile

I wanted to make something special for Olive since she inherited everything else in her room from Hannah. So I found this idea for a mobile on Young House Love (a design blog that I look at too often). It probably took a couple of hours to make, but because I never have 2 hours of free time it really took me a couple of weeks of working on it 10 minutes at time!  The wall color looks blue-ish in the first picture, but it is really the green of the second picture.
