Deanna Rose

Our first trip to Deanna Rose this season!  We went with a teacher friend who is currently on maternity leave.  She has a daughter a few months younger than Olive and a 2 month old son.

They had lots of new things, like these horses.  Hannah is a little more excited about them than Olive...

Olive gets braver and braver as she gets older.  This is her first time enjoying the goats instead of running and crying.  Although, I do admit, the goats get a little scary when they are looking for food.  One tried to eat my shoelace!

Olive decided (much to my surprise) that she wanted to ride a horse!  It was her first time since you have to be three years old to ride.  She was a little nervous at first, but she did it!

Of course, Horse Girl needed a ride, too.  Notice that her outfit is coordinated to the occasion.

Another awesome thing about Deanna Rose- free wagons!  Hannah loved pulling Olive around.

Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead

Today was a beautiful autumn day and we wanted to do something outside, so we decided to check out Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. I had heard of it before, but I thought it was just a petting zoo. I went in with low expectations...and I was completely blown away. It was way more than a petting zoo. And it was free! Well, you had to pay for some of the activities, but we didn't do those. :) Besides the farm animals, there were little bicycle tractors that kids could race on a track, a fishing pond where you could catch and release, nature trail, playground, and interactive exhibits. My favorite one was where kids could mine for "gold" and gemstones with a sifter...and they actually had stuff for the kids to find! I can't wait until Hannah gets older and she can do it. Even though she couldn't do a lot of stuff Hannah still had a good time. She was very smiley. We found some chimes and cow bells for her to ring. She also liked looking at the animals. I called Jane immediately after leaving Deanna Rose and said the next time they are in Kansas City we are taking the boys there! Yeah, I know I am a little overly excited. Kid stuff makes me happy. There were even face cut outs there!

It's been awhile since Steve has visited Deanna Rose.  It is open late on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the summer, so we were able to take him one day after work.

And we spotted a hot air balloon!  We could even hear the burners.  I wish our ride would have been over Deanna Rose!

I *think* this was Olive's first time at Deanna Rose.  It seems weird that we didn't go last year, but maybe not.  I remember not doing much of anything except feeding and diaper changing last year.  This summer is different.  The girls and I are having so much fun together, I don't know how I'm going to go back to teaching.  Hannah was really into the animals at Deanna Rose, and Olive was too...but maybe that was because Hannah was making animal sounds for everything and she found that really funny.

Hannah's first horse ride!!  I described it to Steve as a pony and Hannah corrected me, "No, it was a really big horse."
 

 

 

She was equally excited about fishing, but disappointed that she didn't catch anything...maybe because I didn't pay to get any bait.  I am not a fisherwoman and wanted no part of getting a fish off the hook.  She can have just as much fun pretending, right?

Deanna Rose

It was a beautiful weekend in KC.  Saturday we went to Deanna Rose Farmstead.  Hannah was very excited to see the animals.  She said the cows and horses were her favorites.  She was also exited to be wearing her sunglasses and didn't want to take them off.  And I was excited that her hair is finally long enough for a real ponytail. :)

This was the first time we got in the pgymy goat area.  Hannah was not happy that they come right up to you looking for food.  She needed her Dada for protection.

She tried pedaling a tractor for the first time.  She needed some help.

Hannah's two goals in life right now are to ride a school bus and ride a horse.  She mentions them to me almost daily.  You have to be 3 to ride the ponies at Deanna Rose, so this is as close as she got.
