We had two days between Chillicothe Christmases. We didn't want to stay in Chillicothe all week, so we drove back home on Tuesday to sleep in our own beds (and clean up a little after the Christmas morning mess that we left in our house.) Then we drove to Wichita Wednesday morning! Strange, but true. Steve took the whole week off work (which has never happened before), so we wanted to take a little family trip. And we haven't been to Wichita with the girls, so off we went. First we went to the Sedgwick County Zoo. It was a nice sunny day AND somehow they were running a "Winter Wednesday" special so admission was only $3 a person. Score!
They had different farms set up from different continents. This was in the North American farm and there were also African and Asian farms. I thought it was a neat comparison to show kids the differences in animals and buildings.
I was really impressed with some of their exhibits. We could get close to lots of the animals and didn't have to view them behind glass. We even heard the lion roar!
Next up was the Keeper of the Plains statue where the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers meet.
From the bridge we could see the Exploration Place, our next stop.
We love going to kid science museums! This one had some unique exhibits that we haven't seen before. This was a water table that mimicked the river outside so you could see how sand bars were made.

Of course with Boeing in town, there was a big aviation room. This was a flight simulation game.
This wall was covered in movable metal squares. Kids could control the speed and direction of the windmill and you could see the wind patterns on the wall. Coolest thing ever.
The girls are always excited about staying a motel and swimming. We spent HOURS in the pool. This was their favorite part of the trip.
We had a pretty view of the Flint Hills driving home on Thursday.
