Hannah's Bike

Once upon a time Steve found a bike on large item pick-up day (when people put out large "trash").  He wanted it to be Hannah's bike someday.  I said it's a boy bike and we should get something girly for Hannah.  He said this bike was purple.  I said it was plainly blue.  And so we ended up getting another bike for Hannah's 4th birthday.  Right after her 5th birthday, we took the training wheels off and she learned how to ride almost immediately.  A month after that, we realized she needed a bigger bike.  Steve brought out the old bike.  So right after learning how to ride a bike, Hannah then learned how to use handbrakes and shift gears.  She loved her "big girl" bike, but she wasn't too excited about the blue.  Since we got it for free we didn't mind spending some money making it girly.

We forgot to take a real "before" picture.  It already has the new seat and tires Hannah picked out.

Hannah was involved in the whole process.  She picked out pink spray paint for the frame and silver for the fork.  She has always loved helping Steve with projects at his workbench, and she was even more motivated to put together her own bicycle.

The "after" picture: new tires, seat, paint job, horn, and wheel decorations.  

Hannah is in love with her new custom bike and it is even more special that she built it with her Dada.

Olive is now riding Hannah's old bike.  It's kind of a bummer that she gets the leftovers, but a bonus that she got a bike at age three when Hannah had to wait until four.
