Construction

We started out with a yellow guest room.

Then there was demo.

And finally, the construction phase!

 Then in January actual construction started.  It lasted for about two months.  To make a long story short, it was a pain.  Like any home improvement project, it was more involved and expensive that we anticipated.  They fell through the floor twice which resulted in holes in our living room and kitchen ceilings.  They needed to do more structural support in the walls under the dormer which resulted in tearing out walls in the living room.  We originally thought we would just do one new window, but ended up with seven.  And the list goes on.  But it wasn't a surprise.  I've never heard of a construction project taking LESS money and time than people expected! 

I thought this project would be confined to the top level, but because of the structural work (and accidental ceiling holes), it pretty much took up our main level too.  This was our living room during construction.

 All of that furniture got moved to our dining room and family room, which made them pretty crowded/unusable.  As a person who likes things neat and clean, it about drove me insane.

And this is how they left it.  The rest is up to us.  All in all, construction lasted less than two months, but it felt much longer!  It was pretty chaotic and stressful trying to carry on with life as usual when our living area was unlivable.  If the construction could have been contained to just the upstairs bedroom it would've been much better.  But we made it through!
